Leading for the future
On my 60th birthday, Monday 14th February 2022, the Black Into Apprenticeship website was launched. This was in response to the stark news about the number of people who engage in apprenticeships from the black community.
In 2019, the percentage of people on apprenticeships in each ethnic group compared with 2018 population presented a stark reality with reference to people of colour.
The data shows;
-
White people made up 87.5% of apprenticeship starts and 84.0% of the overall population
-
Asian people made up 5.5% of apprenticeship starts and 8.4% of the overall population
- Black people made up 3.5% of apprenticeship starts and only 3.8% of the overall population.
Why are people of colour not choosing apprenticeship study as their route to higher education and better income employment.
BIA will act as information hub and support network for anybody wanting to explore an apprenticeship.
